800 Years of freedom


October 9 th is the most important festival in Valencian Community that commemorates the entry of King Jaime I in the city of Valencia. It took place in 1238, and liberated valencians from500 years of Moorish rule. This 2008, Valencian Community Celebrates the 8th centenary of this fact.

There are lots of events during these days. Of course, it stars with a typical firework display on October 8th . Next day, the lowering of the Senyera takes place, that is the official flag of the Valencian Community. After this, there is a long parade, that takes between 5 or 6 hours and people dress up as Moors & Christians. It goes throughout the main streets of the city. In front of the momument of Jaime I, there is a floral tribute.
In the end of the day the parade finishes with the traditional “Mascletá”.

Besides, October 9th is the Day of Saint Dionisios, who is similar to Saint Valentine and this day, Valencians in love traditionally give their girlfriends or wives a “Mocaorà”, which is a kind of marzipan pastry handcrafted.

Quite nice news story! different in contents from the usual stuff.

Any suggestion to improve the word ENTRANCE? it refers to the place rather than the action itself.
