Interview with Monica 29th Oct 2008

Monica is a Psycotherapist from London, U.K. She studied some masters in Japan and in the U.S.A. She's currently studying Spanish in Alicante and also holds private lessons to Spanish children.
After some short introductions, we started chatting about her opinions on several aspects of Media in the U.K. She told us about the differences between the so-called "Tabloids" and "Broadsheets". Depending on what you're looking for, you choose your paper. She remarked it's not unusual for them to find sentences written in a grammatically incorrect way. Some that are used to reading tabloids can find The Independent more challenging and detailed, for instance.
Related to politics, she told us poeple realized it's time for them to take action. Young people are not used to going to polls but that's changing.
She said "Yes" when asked about American influence on British media, British politics, and even in Brithis English. They use their "easier" way of speaking to be adopted by thousands. It's easy to find in Tabloids headlines like this: "Cops hold in" when the British word would be "Police", "Police officers" or "Constables" but not "Cops". She said she, sometimes, found more difficult her work in America than in Japan.
