GPA (General Power of Attorney)

We came across that short form (GPA)written on a banner a demonstrator was showing in front of the Stock Exchange Market in Wall Street (NY).

I spotted this question on a website about mortgages: "Can I apply home loan based on GPA(General Power of Attorney)?"

Power of attorney in English is "poder notarial"

When you sign a Power of Attorney agreement you give the person named in the document the legal authority to act for you in the matter described.

For example, once I was out of town when I bought a condominium (piso, apartamento in AmE), and my lawyer had the Power of Attorney to sign the documents for me so the purchase could be completed.
