train accident in Calpe

A train derailed on Wednesday morning into Calpe “trenet” station. The train was coming from Benissa and its destination was Altea. There were 18 passengers inside at the time of the accident; five of them were injured and they were taken to the Calpe Medical Centre. However, a 17 year old boy was taken to the Marina Altea Hospital because he had a severe neck pain.

The accident happened a few minutes past 9.00. The train had two wagons. The first wagon suddenly derailed and the people were standing inside. At least, the second wagon did not leave the rails, as you can see in the photo.

Now, the train is under a full investigation to discover the causes of the accident. The train was not circulating at high speed.

The train company is helping passengers, so they have an alternative means of travel. Now, passengers have to take the bus while the rails are being repaired and the causes are discovered.
