Dear editor,
I finished my studies of Teaching Training at the University of Alicante last July, now I can say that I am a teacher, although I have been giving private lessons for many years. I joined the waiting list of employment bureau for English teachers in the Valencian Community last 16th of September, more than one month ago, and I am still waiting. The amazing thing is that I am not still working becasuse there are no jobs for me; quite the contrary, parents, teachers and Generalitat know about the need of incorporating English teachers to our schools, not only because of the application of the Organic Law of Education (LOE), but also because there are still many vacancies to be covered and many students without their English teacher.
What is happening then?In my opinion, it is something related to the slowness of our selection systems and the lack of Spanish job agencies on the Internet . Things like this do not occur in Britain, where in the same situation you could be working in a couple of days. Undoubtedly, this is due to the effciency of the British Administration. Job Centres in the UK have a data base system more centralised and modern than the Spanish ones that allows job seekers to find an employment through these Centres in a short period of time. Only by typing “Job Centres” in “Google” you may find on-line a wide variety of webs offering lots of jobs according to your qualification all around England.
Definitely, what I try to transmit is my disappointment with the Spanish system to find a job and my call of attention to the Aministration and job agencies in order to keep up to date and to be able to give a good job offer service for unemployed people in a more efficient way.
Best regards, Elisabet.
